Yihan Chen (born in Fujian, China) is a multi-disciplinary artist based in New York. She received her B.A in Visual Communication from Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing 2013, and her M.P.S in Interactive Telecommunication Program (ITP) from New York University 2018.

Recently, in Yihan’s art, she turns herself into an object of observation in the society she lives in. From the perspective of the observer and the observed, she tries to explore the changing relations between individual cognition, communities, culture, social system, and self. When the observed object and the observer appear at the same time, conflicts arise. Yihan wants to discover the potential answer of freedom through the process of deconstructing, reconstructing, and describing these conflicts. Her practice spans installation, behavior, virtual reality (VR), image, and sound.

Yihan’s works have been exhibited at various shows, including Chameleon Gallery: Longing (On Canal, New York, 2019); Cross-Cultural Practice: Recent Works by Chinese Artists in New York, (New York City College of Technology, CUNY, New York, 2019); Currents New Media Festival 2019 (El Museo Cultural de Santa Fe, Santa Fe, NM, 2019); Refest 2019 (CultureHub, New York, 2019); ‘LIFE GEEK’ International Collection of New Media Art (MANA, Shanghai, 2018); NEW YOUTH: China-America Young Artists Exhibition (Metropolitan Pavilion, New York, 2018); Christie’s Education: “Sensation Injection”, ( artist sharing session in Christie’s, Rockefeller Plaza, New York, 2018); “New York, New York“ Art Crossover Exhibition (New York Fashion Week 2019 S/S, New York, 2018).
